Chocolate Guinness Cake

I last made this cake for Arthur’s Day (any excuse for a Guinness based dessert!). It’s a Hummingbird Bakery recipe from the Cake Days book. The recipe makes a lovely rich chocolate cake which the cream cheese frosting really complements.

I was a bit worried about heating the Guinness, I was half afraid it would give the cake a very harsh, almost burnt flavour. But when it was heated and combined with the butter it had an almost chocolate/toffee flavour, so you can imagine how amazing it tasted when I added the cocoa!

The cake is quite dense and moist, and it went down a storm when I brought it into work the next morning. I don’t think anyone had considered chocolate and Guinness as a tasty combo!

The recipe for the cake can be found here. I’ll definitely be making this again soon, it’s too good to wait until Arthur’s Day for!
