I have a bit of a blog backlog (guilty face). As a result, in mid February, I am now uploading a picture of my finished Christmas cake (even guiltier face).
I decided to use the Hummingbird Bakery’s Cake Days cookbook to inject a bit of festive cheer! The other recipes I’ve tried so far have all been really successful – Sticky Toffee Cupcakes, Chocolate Guinness Cake, Red Velvet Cupcakes, Marbled Cupcakes and Caramel Cupcakes. I decided given the impending festive season I needed to Christmas up my life a bit! I found a recipe for Gingerbread Cupcakes in the book and decided to test run it! Here’s how I got on!
The apartment began to smell really Christmas-y when these were baking! A definite creator of Christmas cheer! I have step by step photos and a link to the recipe after the cut! Continue reading
I made my first batch of mince pies yesterday, the smell in the kitchen really made me feel Christmas-y! I use a Ballymaloe recipe for the pastry, it’s a rich pastry – it uses a lot more butter than normal and an egg to bind.
I have pastry tips and step by step pictures after the cut! Continue reading
If I get time I’ll try to make a snowman and a Christmas Tree. I love making cute little things like this, they’re almost cartoon-y! I’ve a step by step photo tutorial after the cut!
I needed a break from studying today (I’ve had two exams in a row! I’m tired!) So I decided to make some decorations for the top of my Christmas cake.
I started with a reindeer, he’s kind of adorable. Next up is a Santa, a Christmas tree and a snowman! I’ve a step by step photo tutorial after the cut! Continue reading
I went to an Edible Christmas Presents cookery demonstration last night in PinkGinger. I’m feeling very festive now as a result, despite having sat my second exam this morning! We learned how to make a range of delicious sauces and treats that we could give as gifts. My nearest and dearest are almost certainly getting chilli jam, truffles and biscotti from me this year! I may have to add to my Christmas Prep post! More below on what we did and how it went!
